    To: John Stephen Harvey (John@Gmail.com)

    To: John@gmail.com
In my custom contact form, I dumped the field box "email display as" in P.2. and hid the page. Under Properties (of email display as field)> Value> Initial Value, I checked the box to "set the initial value of this field to "email". I selected the dial button "Calc the formula automatically".

It seems to work so far on new contacts created, and if I re-enter the email address on the email field of existing contacts. Updating the message class with the omsgclas word macro does not seem to have "reset" or prompt outlook to "re-generate" the email display as field for all existing contacts.
